ABOUT THE ARTIST
Taiyo Okamoto creates works immersed in the practice of returning to one’s self. By shedding the heavy armors and concepts of society, he synchronizes color, light, texture, and the flow of water to explore and transmute a tender reality. Taiyo uses paper chigiri-e, painting, photography, digital, the human body, written and spoken word to awaken the senses to an embodied awareness of the now. He appears in the award-winning “Hanagatami” directed by legendary Japanese filmmaker Nobuhiko Obayashi. Taiyo grew up by the ocean in Karatsu, Japan, where he often spent his childhood days dreamily gazing at the vast sky, crashing waves, and flying fish. He has lived in NYC since 2002. Taiyo has exhibited artworks in group and solo shows in New York, Philadelphia, Taipei and London.
